LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae has not only raised associate compensation but has conformed its method of paying salaries to that of other New York firms. For the last two years, the firm had paid a below-market base salary, a 10 percent non-discretionary bonus tied to hours worked plus a discretionary bonus of as much as 25 percent. While star associates had the potential in total to earn more than the going rate at other top firms, some were bothered by the lack of certainty, according to Steven Davis, a co-chairman of the firm. The firm now, like most others, pays a base salary plus a fixed bonus. Total compensation for 1999 is as follows: Class of ’98, $108,000; Class of ’97, $122,000; Class of ’96, $140,000; Class of ’95, $162,000; Class of ’94, $186,000; Class of ’93, $200,000; Class of ’92, $210,000; Class of ’91, $215,000. The firm also scrapped its yearly requirement of 2,000 billable hours.
