When Daniel Morris Colwell appeared at the Americus, Ga. police station in 1996 to confess gunning down two strangers only minutes before, he told police he had killed because he wanted to die in the electric chair. And, at his 1998 sentencing trial, he said the same thing repeatedly to his lawyers and the judge. The verdict: death. Now, his lawyer says Colwell changed his mind because, for the first time in years, he is receiving the medication and dosage needed to treat his mental illness.
