In a retrial of the long-running war between a San Francisco law firm and its detractors, a jury has awarded Tarkington, O’Connor & O’Neill $3.6 million for defamatory statements made about the firm’s billing practices by a Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. auditor.
Tarkington sued the insurer over comments that former Fireman’s Fund auditor James Schratz made to The Recorder and The Wall Street Journal in 1992, alleging the firm overbilled one of its clients.
