It is snack time in the primary color-hued, toy-littered basement room at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, and a gaggle of 2-year-olds gnaw at bite-sized bagels and cream cheese before abandoning the food to run squealing around the room.
The parents of the four toddlers and the infant napping quietly in the corner are beneficiaries of that rarest of breeds, an on-site child-care center at a law firm. None of the children present on this day, however, belongs to an Orrick attorney. All are the offspring of staff.
