Mayer Brown partner Roger Kiley has left his position this month as senior vice president and general counsel of AT&T Corp.’s midwest division and returned to work at the firm. Kiley, 71, had planned to retire from AT&T in June and moved that timing up when the telecommunications company decided earlier this year to reorganize regional divisions, including their legal departments, into a centralized structure, he said. Many of the regional divisions were absorbed in recent years through mergers. Kiley, who has experience in communications law and government relations, still plans to work as a consultant for the company. He had held the post at AT&T since 2002. The regional general counsel posts were eliminated in other regions as well with most of those officers being absorbed into the national structure, Kiley said. The company said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on April 18 that the reorganization reduced the company’s workforce by 1.5 percent, mainly affecting management employees. There were not any legal department employees cut as part of the reorganization, Kiley said.
