Minneapolis business attorney Donald Lewis has been named the new dean of the Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul. Lewis, co-founder of Minneapolis’s Halleland Lewis Nilan & Johnson, will remain with his law firm. He has been an adjunct faculty member at Hamline since 2004 and previously taught at William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul. “He has a wealth of experience in the legal community and has distinguished himself as an educator, a champion of diversity and a focused visionary,” Hamline President Linda N. Hanson said in a news release. Lewis replaces Jon Garon, who announced in September that he would step down this July when he concludes a five-year term as dean. Garon plans to return to the Hamline faculty after a sabbatical, the school said. Lewis, 55, primarily works in commercial litigation and labor and employment law. He co-founded the firm 12 years ago after spending nine years at the Popham Haik law firm. He also spent six years as an assistant U.S. attorney.
