John Breaux and his former firm appear ready to share custody of some clients. The Breaux-Lott Leadership Group and Patton Boggs announced last week that they’ll be teaming up on some projects and that Breaux and his current partner, former Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.), will become special advisers to Patton Boggs. The alliance will cover “certain public policy clients” as well as some firm events and programs, according to a statement from Patton Boggs. The former Democratic senator from Louisiana was considered a top lobbyist while at Patton Boggs, and his loss was seen as a blow to the firm. The two sides have said for months that they hoped to negotiate a deal of some kind. The statement doesn’t address the clients Breaux worked with while at Patton Boggs, many of which are still there. That list includes Sallie Mae, Verizon, and Royal Caribbean Cruises. Some, like the Plains Exploration Production Co., are registered with both Breaux’s new firm and Patton Boggs. Since opening its doors after the first of the year, the fledgling Breaux-Lott Leadership Group has registered 14 clients, including Delta, Daimler Chrysler, and AT&T.
