LOS ANGELES — The highest profile lawyer in the wiretapping criminal trial against Anthony Pellicano, Bertram Fields, issued a statement on denying recent claims that he would plead the Fifth Amendment if asked to testify about his relationship with the celebrity sleuth. On the 11th day of trial, a federal prosecutor said in court that Fields, an entertainment litigator who is on the government’s witness list, should not be allowed to plead the Fifth under statute of limitations grounds, according to two online publications, Huffington Post and Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood Daily, which are covering the trial. “I have nothing to hide,” said Fields, a top partner at Los Angeles-based Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman & Machtinger, in an emailed statement issued by a spokesman, Lonnie Soury. “I do not intend to take the Fifth Amendment. I will testify if I am asked.” A hearing on the issue is scheduled for Monday, March 31.
