LOS ANGELES — A networking group for women lawyers, dubbed the New Girls’ Network, has launched a Los Angeles chapter. On Tuesday, the New Girls’ Network, which has locations in New York and Washington, announced its new Los Angeles chapter at an informal breakfast on the city’s West side. Originally founded in 1992 as Lawyers Advocating Alternative Work Solutions, the networking group originally focused on finding flexible work for women, said Nora Plesent, who founded the group after practicing law. “I left to try to build a market for flexible work arrangements for lawyers back in the ’90s, and right around that time the whole temporary legal staffing market came into being,” she said. “I saw an obvious connection between helping women get contract legal positions as a way for firms to provide more flexibility.” In 2001, Plesent renamed the networking group and co-founded a temporary legal staffing firm, Lexolution, which opened its first Los Angeles office last summer. Now, she said, the networking group aims to recruit women lawyers who are interested in developing ways to generate business, make partner and work with clients.
