Clifford Chance is expanding its Central and Eastern European operations by opening an office in Kiev, Ukraine, later this year, the firm announced. The office will initially offer international execution facilities while building up local capacity. Over time it is expected to become a full-service operation for clients in the region. “Our new office in Kiev will enable us to handle the increasingly large volumes of work in the region, strengthen existing regional client relationships, and extend our ability to serve global clients as they expand into growth markets,” Michael Cuthbert, the Central and Eastern Europe managing partner, said in a news release. “A presence in Kiev will also help to develop further our successful Central and Eastern Europe operation, which is the leading legal practice in the region and one of the fastest-growing regions for the firm.” The Kiev office will be managed by Nick Fletcher, who is currently managing partner of the Warsaw office. The firm has 34 partners and more than 170 lawyers in Moscow, Warsaw, Budapest and Bucharest. Firmwide, Clifford Chance has more than 3,800 legal advisers in 20 countries.
