WASHINGTON — Banking regulatory attorney Joseph T. Lynyak III has joined Venable LLP as a partner in its national financial services group in its Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles offices. Lynyak, who moved from Washington, D.C.-based Buckley Kolar, has practiced in financial services for 30 years. He has broad knowledge of industry regulation and enforcement as well as extensive experience in retail banking, handling matters relating to mortgage and subprime lending, and fair lending. He also advises on bank operations issues, including federal preemption and strategic planning. Lynyak, a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, has represented brokerages, insurance companies, mortgage lenders, and other bank affiliates before every major oversight agency, including the Federal Reserve Board, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Office of Thrift Supervision, the Office of Comptroller of the Currency, and the Federal Trade Commission, as well as before other major federal and state financial regulatory agencies. His expertise extends across all areas of banking law, including state and federal. Lynyak frequently defends banks and their affiliates in class actions and consumer litigation. He has led frequent fair lending investigations and is currently litigating several class actions and related consumer claims on behalf of his financial services clients.
