The Justice Department’s long-term goal to house its many offices scattered throughout the District under fewer roofs is taking shape. General Service Administration officials last week confirmed that the Justice Department has signed off on a $250 million, 15-year lease for 521,000 square feet at a building to be ready by 2010 in the emerging “NoMa” sector of the city — that is, the area north of Massachusetts Avenue in Northeast D.C. “This is part of an ongoing consolidation we’ve undertaken for Justice,” says GSA spokesman Michael McGill. More than 1,000 employees are expected to move from the Criminal Division’s several offices. DOJ currently holds more than two dozen leases in the District, where up to 10,000 employees work.
