Baker & McKenzie has hired Joan E. Meyer, who has been senior counsel to the U.S. deputy attorney general in the Justice Department for the past two years. She will join the firm’s Washington office as a partner on March 3, the firm said in a press release. Meyer, 47, will work with the North American litigation team, focusing on business crimes and investigations, as well as the corporate compliance and risk management practice group and the dispute resolution group, the firm said. The international firm, which was founded in Chicago, has about 3,600 lawyers in 70 offices around the world. Meyer has spent almost her entire 25 year career in public service work, at both the state and federal government levels. Before taking the senior counsel position in January 2006, she was chief of the criminal division in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Michigan.
