BOSTON — Boston litigation firm Todd & Weld is hiring the former chief of homicide at the Suffolk County district attorney’s office, David E. Meier. Meier, who has been with the district attorney’s office since 1996, is scheduled to join the firm on March 3. While at the district attorney’s office, Meier tried homicide cases and argued appellate cases. He also served as the lead state prosecutor in multi-agency investigations involving federal, state and local law enforcement. At Todd & Weld, which has about 40 lawyers, Meier will develop a practice handling civil and criminal trials and white-collar criminal matters, said name partner J. Owen Todd. “It is clear he will attract an enormous amount of business in the white-collar area because he’s so well known,” Todd said. “The criminal area would be everyone else’s first thought, but there’s no question that he can help us on the civil side as well because he’s the equal of anyone we have here as a trial lawyer.” Todd & Weld primarily handle civil cases so it’s rare for the firm to hire a veteran prosecutor, Todd said. “If you’ve been a good trial lawyer trying criminal cases that can be transferred to the civil side very easily,” Todd said.
