WASHINGTON President Bush has tapped a U.S. Department of Justice attorney and a Senate committee lawyer to fill two vacancies on the U.S. Tax Court. David Gustafson was nominated to replace Judge Carolyn P. Chiechi, whose term expired. Gustafson, a graduate of Duke Law School, has worked in the Justice Department’s Tax Division for more than 20 years. He is currently chief in the Court of Federal Claims Section of the Tax Division. Elizabeth Crewson Paris was named to succeed Judge Joel Gerber, who retired from the court. Paris is tax counsel on the Republican staff of the Senate Finance Committee and an adjunct professor in the Georgetown University graduate tax program. Before joining the Senate Finance Committee, she was a tax partner with Milwaukee’s Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren. She earned her J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law and her tax LL.M. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.
