The head of a federal inquiry into the firings of eight U.S. Attorneys claims that the Justice Department has impeded his investigation. In a letter sent to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, Office of Special Counsel chief Scott J. Bloch said that one roadblock has been a request by Justice officials that he step aside until internal department investigations are finished. The Office of Special Counsel, an independent federal agency, protects the rights of federal workers and government whistleblowers.
