CHICAGO Baker & McKenzie has formed an antitrust practice group in Tokyo made up of attorneys in its office there, building on the firm’s worldwide antitrust services. The move was driven by the need to apply antitrust rules across international jurisdictions and the likely broadening of the Japanese antitrust rules soon, the firm’s Tokyo managing partner, Jeremy Pitts, said in a press release. The new group will be part of a global team that already stretches across North America, Europe, and Latin America, the firm said. The group will be led in Tokyo by Fumio Koma, who joined the firm last April. Koma’s background includes advising clients on mergers, handling domestic and international antitrust cases, and representing clients in cartel cases. The group will also include Shinichiro Abe, Yoshiaki Muto and Akira Inoue, among others. The firm’s global antitrust and competition practice group includes 260 lawyers and other professionals from the various jurisdictions. The firm is known as Baker & McKenzie GJBJ Tokyo Aoyama Aoki Koma Law Office in the Japanese city.
