GAITHERSBURG CITY COUNCIL Ryan Spiegel was elected to a four-year term as a member of the Gaithersburg (Md.) City Council. Spiegel is a litigation associate in Winston & Strawn’s D.C. office.
JUSTICE DEPARTMENT William Corcoran received the Henry E. Petersen Memorial Award from the Criminal Division of the Justice Department. The accolade recognizes Corcoran’s contributions to the department’s public integrity and narcotics enforcement programs. Corcoran is counsel to the Senate Select Committee on Ethics.
LEGISLATIVE BLACK CAUCUS OF MARYLAND Orlan Johnson received the Salute to Black Leadership Award from the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland. The award recognizes his work on the board of regents for the Task Force on the Education of Maryland’s African American Males. Johnson is a partner in the business department of Saul Ewing’s Washington office.
STAKEHOLDER 100 Erin Roberts has been selected to participate in the Stakeholder 100 leadership training program. The program recruits young attorneys of color for its training course. Roberts is a business litigation associate in Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice’s Tysons Corner, Va., office.
THOMPSON COBURN Robert Shapiro has been named vice chairman of Thompson Coburn’s transportation and international commerce practice. He is a partner in the firm’s D.C. office.
VIRGINIA ASSOCIATION OF DEFENSE ATTORNEYS Dennis Quinn was elected to the executive committee of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys. He will serve as secretary of the committee for 2008, then move to other leadership positions. Quinn is a partner in Carr Maloney’s Washington office.
WORLDLEADERS INTERNATIONAL IP AWARD Covington & Burling was awarded the WorldLeaders International IP Award for trademark excellence. The firm was recognized for defending the SPI Group’s rights to the Stolichnaya vodka trademark against the Russian government. — Marisa McQuilken
