After a “contentious battle” between the former and current counsel to a demanding client, the client must pay legal fees to the firm she fired, a federal judge in New York has ruled.
In Greenberg v. Cross Island Industries, 05 cv 6026, Eastern District of New York Judge Arthur Spatt ruled that Irene Greenberg’s original counsel, Alpert & Kaufman in Manhattan, was not discharged for cause and was entitled to $18,480 for its work in the personal injury suit, which eventually settled for $1.5 million.
