The U.S. Senate confirmed Robert Michael Dow Jr., a partner at Mayer Brown, for appointment to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Dow, 42, is a general and appellate litigator who has focused on the areas of telecommunications, constitutional law, jurisdiction, civil procedure and mass torts and product liability, among other fields, according to the firm’s Web site. Dow joined Mayer Brown in 1995 after clerking for 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Joel Flaum. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1993 and received a doctorate from the University of Oxford in 1997. There are 47 judicial vacancies plus 14 circuit court vacancies, with nominations pending for 21 and 8 posts, respectively, according to a statement from Senator Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
