Baker & McKenzie, the largest U.S. law firm in the world last year by head count, said that its partners had re-elected John Conroy as chairman of the firm’s executive committee to a second three-year term. Conroy, an international banking and finance lawyer, has overseen a 50 % rise in global fee income to $1.83 billion and a 63 percent jump in profits per partner to $1.06 million since taking the post in 2004, the firm said in a statement. Conroy, 54, has been a partner with the firm in Chicago since 1987, was elected U.S. managing partner in 1999 and held the North American managing partner position until he was elected executive committee chairman. The firm also said that partners elected Peter Engstrom to the eight-member executive committee as its representative for North America, replacing Nick Coward of the Washington office. Engstrom, a commercial and business litigator, has been managing partner of the San Francisco/Palo Alto office. Baker & McKenzie, which was founded in Chicago, has 3,600 lawyers working at 70 offices in 38 countries. The largest office, based on attorney headcount, is in London.
