LOS ANGELES David Laufer, the former vice president and general counsel of Natrol Inc., has joined Dreier Stein & Kahan as a partner in its Santa Monica, Calif., office. Laufer specializes in franchise law, representing businesses and directors in litigation, dispute resolution and regulatory compliance relating to distributors and franchises. He also handles vitamin and supplement regulatory law, compliance with California’s Proposition 65, class actions and insurance coverage. Most recently, Laufer founded Dispudiate ADR Services, which resolves disputes involving insurance coverage, franchise expansion conflicts, disagreements between manufacturers and distributors and unfair trade practices claims. While at Natrol, a provider of nutritional supplements in Chatsworth, Calif., Laufer handled filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and oversaw the company’s human resources department. He also served on the board of directors and audit and compensation committees. Before joining Natrol, Laufer was a senior partner at the former firms of Riordan & McKinzie, Arter and Hadden and Kindel & Anderson. Last week, Dreier Stein & Kahan, an affiliate of Dreier LLP in New York, announced it would merge with Browne Woods & George of Beverly Hills, Calif., on Jan. 1, 2008.
