High-profile IP litigator Gerald Dodson is joining Goodwin from Morrison & Foerster's Palo Alto, Calif., office, according to sources familiar with the deal. Dodson has represented the University of California in some of its biggest IP cases. Last year, he won a $200 million settlement for the university system in a case against Monsanto Co. over a biotech patent involving bovine growth hormone. In 1999, he won another $200 million settlement for the university system against Genentech Inc.
