Hartford partner Eric Watt Wiechmann was named managing partner of the 400-attorney McCarter & English on Monday. Wiechmann succeeds Lois M. Van Deusen, who has retired from the firm, but will remain affiliated with McCarter as an of counsel lawyer. Wiechmann, who formerly served as the firm’s deputy managing partner, specializes in litigation, including toxic tort, antitrust and professional liability cases. Wiechmann said in a statement that he intends to continue expanding the firm. “In a profession where mergers can be very challenging, Lois Van Deusen engineered three remarkable successes in just a few years,” Wiechmann said. “Hopefully, we’ve learned something about choosing partners and integrating offices that can be carried forward.” McCarter has offices in Boston, Connecticut, Delaware, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
