Carolyn E. Smith, who served as associate deputy chief of staff and legislative counsel with the U.S. Congress Joint Committee on Taxation, has joined the Washington, D.C., office of Atlanta’s Alston & Bird. In her most recent role, Smith provided technical and policy advice to members and staff of the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance committees on a range of federal tax issues. Smith joins the employee benefits and executive compensation group at Alston & Bird. She will advise clients on a range of tax-related issues with a focus on employee benefits, executive compensation, health and long-term care and tax legislative matters. Alston & Bird has more than 800 lawyers in six U.S. Offices.
