Baker & McKenzie has hired Chris Pierce-Cooke, 54, as its new global chief operating officer, following the departure of Craig Courter. Pierce-Cooke will assist the firm�s chairman, John Conroy, and its executive committee in developing the firm’s management agenda, leading its professional management, developing strategic initiatives and supportinglawyers in client relationships. He will be based in Chicago. Pierce-Cooke, who began his career as a solicitor in London, recently spent seven years in Philadelphia as worldwide managing director of a global provider of career transition and organizational consulting services. The firm has about 3,600 lawyers at 70 offices in 38 countries with its largest office in London. Previously, Pierce-Cooke was a commercial, tax, property lawyer and litigator at CMS Cameron McKenna before moving to an inside counsel position at British Aerospace and later holding various other management posts at the aerospace company, including a post in Australia running the company’s AsiaPacific operations. Later, he worked for Westpac Banking Corp. and two consulting groups in Australia.
