Gordon Klingenschmitt is a U.S. Navy chaplain no more. By the looks of it, no amount of litigation is going to change that. The former chaplain and evangelical Christian made headlines in 2005, with his allegations that the Navy was trying to squeeze him out for praying publicly in the name of Jesus. Last week, Judge Henry Kennedy of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia dismissed his suit against Navy Secretary Donald Winter, shooting down each of Klingenschmitt’s claims in short order. The judge, in his seven-page ruling, found no violation of the Navy regulations, no evidence of retaliation, and no legal standing. Still, Klingenschmitt is appealing the ruling, according to his lawyer, solo practitioner William Farley. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit will hear oral arguments on Sept. 25. The Navy dropped Klingenschmitt this March, after a Navy board denied his recertification.
