BEAN KINNEY & KORMAN Two attorneys have joined Bean Kinney & Korman. David Temeles, 39, has joined the firm as a partner. Temeles focuses on litigation and transactional matters in a variety of fields, including intellectual property, corporate, tax and estate planning. Before joining, he was a name partner at Temeles & Temeles and received his J. D. from Washington & Lee University School of Law. Sara Leiner, 28, has joined as an associate and practices domestic relations law. Previously, Leiner was an associate with Feldesman Tucker Leifer Fidell. She obtained her law degree from Emory University School of Law.
DECHERT Michael Rufkahr has joined Dechert as a partner in the international and domestic tax practice. Rufkahr, 53, concentrates on tax issues within mergers and acquisitions, investment funds, and joint ventures. He also has experience in tax litigation and has represented clients before the Supreme Court. Prior to joining the firm, Rufkahr was a partner at Arnold & Porter. He earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.
HELLER EHRMAN Sylwia Lis has joined Heller Ehrman as an associate. Practicing in the international regulatory and transactional groups, Lis advises both foreign and domestic companies on compliance and enforcement matters regarding U.S. export controls, economic sanctions, and anti-boycott laws. She also helps clients conduct regulatory due diligence and compliance assessments as well as getting government approval for transfers of technology. Previously, Lis, 37, was a senior associate at Miller & Chevalier. She earned her law degree from Vanderbilt University Law School.
MORRISON & FOERSTER Ketanji Brown Jackson has joined Morrison & Foerster as of counsel. Jackson concentrates on appellate litigation in state and federal courts as well as before the Supreme Court. Prior to joining the firm, she was an assistant federal public defender in the appeals division in the Office of the Federal Public Defender in D.C. Jackson, 36, also worked as assistant special counsel to the U.S. Sentencing Commission, where she helped draft amendments to federal sentencing guidelines, and she clerked for Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer. Jackson earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School.
SONNENSCHEIN NATH & ROSENTHAL Susan DeSanti has joined Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal as a partner. DeSanti practices in the firm’s antitrust group. Previously, she was senior counsel to the Antitrust Modernization Commission, a body created by Congress to review the nation’s antitrust laws. Prior to her work on the commission, she spent 15 years working at the Federal Trade Comm-ission as director of policy planning and as deputy general counsel for policy studies. While there, she led projects on reforming the health-care system, the patent system, and developed the first antitrust guidelines for joint ventures. DeSanti, 57, received her law degree from Boston University School of Law.
THOMPSON HINE Tess Ferrera, 49, has joined Thompson Hine as a partner. Ferrera practices in the Employee Retirement Income Security Act litigation section of the firm’s employee benefits and executive compensation group, and she specializes in counseling and litigation involving fiduciary obligations under ERISA. Prior to joining the firm, she was a partner at Tighe Patton Armstrong Teasdale. Additionally, Ferrera served several years as a trial attorney for the Labor Department, where she litigated possible violations of ERISA fiduciary in federal courts. She earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
WHITE & CASE Daniel Levin, 51, has joined White & Case as a partner in the firm’s global white-collar practice. Levin has experience in both criminal and civil investigations, internal corporate investigations, and complex civil litigation. Before joining the firm, Levin was counsel at WilmerHale. He has also served as a federal prosecutor and in several high-level government positions, including legal adviser to the National Security Council, chief of staff to the director of the FBI, and acting assistant attorney general in the Office of Legal Counsel. Levin received his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.
THE WILLETT GROUP Rick Weedon, 42, has joined The Willett Group, a litigation support services company, as director of legal services. Weedon works in the company’s D.C. office and previously worked in the technical and legal areas for telecommunications companies, including MCI and Sprint. He earned his J.D. from Howard University School of Law. — Attila Berry
