Erin M. Sweeney joined the Washington office of Dickstein Shapiro as counsel in the ERISA practice and will advise on all aspects of employee benefits and executive compensation. Sweeney is the former Employee Retirement Income Security Act specialist for the U.S. Department of Labor and the primary architect of the Labor Department’s default investment regulation proposal that impacts mutual funds, investment managers, employers and plan trustees. She also helped to draft the Pension Protection Protection Act of 2006, which affects almost all pension plans, employers, plan investment managers and plan service providers. Before joining the Labor Department, Sweeney was counsel with Latham & Watkins and also Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker, and an associate with Arent Fox. She is co-chair of the ERISA subcommittee of the American Bar Association Employment Rights and Responsibilities Committee of Labor and Employment Law Section.
