The firm has also created a two-tier compensation structure that pays most associates either $145,000 or $160,000, based on how many hours they work -- a system the firm says is a response to associates' concerns about work-life balance. Fenwick & West went to a similar system when it raised salaries in May -- but few other firms have elected to do so.
