Rapidly developing technology and its proper place in the courtroom could create many more issues for jurists to consider beyond the merits of a case. As the Connecticut Superior Court Rules Committee met one Friday morning in early June, it contemplated the impact of cameras in the courtroom as well as the impact of everyone having the ability to use laptop computers in court for note-taking purposes.
With a pilot program for televising selected criminal trials set to reach the final stage of review before enactment, the rules committee took a wait-and-see attitude when it came to establishing court rules that would allow for multiple camera coverage, as was done for the recent state Supreme Court arguments over same-sex marriage.
