LOS ANGELES — Boston-based Goodwin Procter has opened an office of a Palo Alto, its fifth California location to open in the past 14 months. Two Goodwin partners from Boston, Kevin Dennis and Kathy Fields, have relocated to co-head the new Silicon Valley office. Dennis, a member of the firm’s business law department, focuses on private equity, venture capital and corporate deals for emerging companies. He was previously in charge of professional development and training at the firm and has served on the hiring committee and the executive committee of the corporate department. Fields, a member of the business law department, focuses on private equity and corporate deals. Three intellectual property partners from San Francisco’s Townsend and Townsend and Crew’s Palo Alto office have joined Goodwin’s latest office as partners: Byron W. Cooper, Gregory S. Bishop and Thomas F. Fitzpatrick. A fourth Townsend partner, April E. Abele, has joined the San Francisco office as a partner. She was previously at Townsend’s San Francisco office. Also, two lawyers from Palo Alto-based Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati have joined the office: Lloyd Winawer, a partner, and Kyle Wombolt, an associate, have joined Goodwin as a partner and of counsel, respectively. Both focus on defending companies against shareholder lawsuits and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement actions. Winawer is expected to spearhead the securities litigation practice group on the West Coast. A seventh partner, William Davisson, has joined Goodwin’s corporate practice. Davisson, formerly a partner at Latham & Watkins, represents investors and investment banks in restructurings, venture capital and debt and equity financings. Goodwin launched its West Coast operations last year with the opening of its Los Angeles and San Francisco offices. In March, the firm added an office in downtown Los Angeles and in San Diego.
