Seattle-based Davis Wright Tremaine added muscle in their California patent and trademark practice in a merger with San Francisco’s boutique Parsons Hsue & deRuntz in a deal that took effect May 18. The new move marries the three-lawyer Parsons firm with a Davis patent group focusing largely biotech and medical devices added to the Los Angeles office in 2005. The Parsons take over adds expertise in electrical and chemical engineering and physics to the practice, according to Davis Wright. “We have a vibrant intellectual property practice throughout our firm and in our California offices, and the merger with Parsons Hsue & de Runtz presents a great opportunity to increase our ability to serve intellectual property clients with a range of needs and in a variety of sciences,” said Martin L. Fineman, partner in charge of Davis Wright’s San Francisco office. Parsons, formed in 2003, serves clients in semiconductor, flash memory, optics, wireless, audio and video industries as well as chemical and pharmaceutical areas among others. Davis Wright Tremaine has 480 lawyers in nine offices.
