WASHINGTON — Jane Sullivan Roberts, a former partner in Washington’s Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman and wife of Chief Justice John Roberts, has joined the Washington office of the legal search firm, Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA). Roberts will lead MLA’s In-House Practice Group, according to Laurie Caplane, MLA’s vice president, Eastern Region. Caplane said Roberts’ experience as Pillsbury’s Professional Development Partner and Executive Partner for Talent Development made her “a natural choice” to head the Washington In-House Practice. Before moving into professional development in 2003, Roberts, who was unavailable for comment, was a partner in Pillsbury’s Global Technology Group, focusing on IT sourcing and procurement of satellite systems. Prior to 1992, she practiced litigation at Shaw Pittman in a wide variety of matters before various courts and decision-making bodies, including large international commercial arbitrations involving nuclear power plants before the International Chamber of Commerce. In 1992, she litigated before Australian courts with then Arthur Robinson & Hedderwicks, a leading law firm in Australia. Roberts holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, a M.Sc. from Brown University, a Dip. Ed. from Melbourne University, and an A.B. in mathematics from the College of the Holy Cross.
