COHEN & COHEN Karen Kohn, 37, has joined as an associate. She will focus on personal injury and medical malpractice cases. Previously, Kohn was an associate general counsel at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. She earned her J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law.
KING & SPALDING Charles (Tim) Engel III has joined King & Spalding’s antitrust litigation practice as a partner. Engel, 52, has experience in complex antitrust cases and commercial litigation and represents clients in price fixing, unfair trade practices, breach of contract, and fraud matters as well as mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining the firm, he was a partner at Howrey, and he received his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law.
LATHAM & WATKINS Susan Seabrook, who was previously of counsel, was named partner at Latham & Watkins, where she practices tax law, specializing in federal tax issues and tax controversies. Prior to joining the firm in 2004, Seabrook, 46, was counsel at LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae. Seabrook also served as an attorney adviser and a senior trial attorney with the Internal Revenue Service. She earned her LL.M. in taxation from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and her J.D. from Gonzaga University School of Law.
LERCH, EARLY & BREWER Jeremy Goldman, 31, has joined Lerch, Early & Brewer in Bethesda, Md., as an associate. Goldman practices real estate law with a focus on commercial transactions, including sales, acquisitions, financing, and leasing matters. Prior to joining, he was an associate with Bingham McCutchen. Goldman received his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
MAYER, BROWN, ROWE & MAW Jerome Roche has joined Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw as a partner in the financial services group. He advises brokers, investment advisers, and banks while facilitating mergers, consolidations, restructuring, and compliance. Previously, Roche, 36, was associate general counsel at the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America — College Retirement Equities Fund and was also the chief legal officer with Teachers Personal Investors Services Inc., one of the organization’s broker dealers. Roche earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.
MEXICAN AMERICAN LEGAL DEFENSE AND EDUCATIONAL FUND Peter Zamora was promoted to D.C. regional counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. As regional counsel, Zamora crafts and implements federal legislation strategies in regards to voting rights, federal education policy, immigration, and other matters. Previously a legislative staff attorney and acting regional counsel in the group’s D.C. office, Zamora, 33, also worked as an associate and legislative attorney for Brustein & Manasevit. He received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
PILLSBURY WINTHROP SHAW PITTMAN Richard Rosenfeld, 37, has joined as a partner. Rosenfeld concentrates on regulatory, compliance, and enforcement matters for brokers, hedge funds, investment advisers, and financial service providers in both the United States and abroad. He represents clients before the Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulatory bodies in tax evasion and fraud cases. Previously, Rosenfeld served as an attorney with the Enforcement Division of the SEC and was most recently a partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. He earned his J.D. from Cornell Law School.
SONNENSCHEIN NATH & ROSENTHAL Alan Fedman has joined Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal as of counsel and will work closely with the Indian law and tribal representation group. Previously, Fedman, 60, was the director of enforcement for the National Indian Gaming Commission, where he supervised the regulation of 400 Indian gaming operations. Also, he assisted in investigations with federal, state, and tribal law enforcement. Furthermore, Fedman served on a Senate special committee investigating government management of natural resources on tribal land. He holds his J.D. from the University of Oklahoma College of Law.
WILMERHALE Ann Kappler has joined WilmerHale as a partner in the financial institutions and litigation groups. She has experience in mortgage banking, insurance, and other financial services matters and represents financial services companies in litigation, legislation, and regulation. Most recently, Kappler was a partner at Kelley Drye Collier Shannon, and she also served as general counsel at Fannie Mae, where she was the principal legal counsel to the company’s executives. Kappler, 49, received her law degree from New York University School of Law. — Attila Berry
