BROWN & GIDDING Andrea Paterson has joined Brown & Gidding as of counsel. Paterson, 46, represents clients in product recall cases and compliance matters before the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Previously, Paterson was a trial attorney in the Office of Compliance at the commission. She graduated from Harvard Law School.
DARBY & DARBY Raj Dav� has joined Darby & Darby as managing partner of the firm’s D.C office. Dav�, 48, practices intellectual property law with a focus on counseling, patent prosecution and litigation, and interference involving the chemical, biological and electronic industries. Previously, he was a partner in Morrison & Foerster’s Northern Virginia office, where he co-chaired the nanotech and materials group. Dav� received his LL.M. in patent law from George Washington University Law School and his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
KELLEY DRYE COLLIER SHANNON Four commercial litigation attorneys have joined Kelley Drye Collier Shannon as partners from Gilbert Heintz & Randolph. John Heintz, 58, chairs the insurance recovery practice and has experience in corporate insurance coverage and complex litigation. He has assisted clients in securing coverage for mass tort claims, class actions, and directors’ and officers’ liabilities, including a major asbestos case and a 9/11 coverage claim. Heintz earned his J.D. from New York University Law School. August Matteis Jr. focuses on multiparty insurance coverage disputes and complex commercial litigation. Matteis, 40, represents clients in class actions involving insurance coverage, securities, contracts, noncompete clauses, and employment and discrimination claims. He earned both his LL.M. in labor and employment and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Donna Wilson, 40, specializes in mediation, litigation, and arbitration of complex civil cases. Wilson represents both corporations and individuals in insurance disputes, securities and consumer class actions, and business litigation; she also advises clients on compliance issues. She graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law. Richard Milone represents commercial policyholders in insurance coverage disputes, assisting clients in litigation, settlement negotiation, and alternative dispute resolution. Milone, 41, has experience in product liability, asbestos, environmental cleanup, and advertising injury. He received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
PEPPER HAMILTON Ellen McElroy has joined Pepper Hamilton as a partner. She concentrates on accounting methods and inventories with an emphasis on capitalization issues. She represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service National Office and the Department of the Treasury and has experience dealing with accounting controversies before IRS Appeals. Previously, McElroy, 46, was a partner in the D.C. office of Ernst & Young, and prior to that she served as legislation counsel in the Office of Special Counsel at the IRS. McElroy received her LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center and her J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.
SIDLEY AUSTIN James Mendenhall, 39, has joined Sidley Austin as a partner in the firm’s international trade and dispute resolution practice. Previously, Mendenhall was general counsel in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, where he handled dispute settlements under international trade agreements and also trade negotiations involving intellectual property, investments, and services. He earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
SONNENSCHEIN NATH & ROSENTHAL Kathleen McDermott, 45, has joined Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal as a partner in the health-care group, where she represents manufacturers, hospitals, researchers, and other health-care organizations. McDermott handles all elements of a health-care practice, including compliance, enforcement, litigation, and both civil and criminal investigations before regulatory bodies. Before joining the firm, she was a partner at Blank Rome and also served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Maryland. McDermott earned her J.D from Suffolk University Law School.
SULLIVAN & WORCESTER Two partners have come to Sullivan & Worcester from Bingham McCutchen. Jerome Muys, who will serve as the director of the environmental and natural resources practice, has represented clients in proceedings regarding enforcement, Superfund cost recovery, and contamination from gas plant operations. In addition, he advises clients on regulations and legislation, including the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act. Before entering the private sector, Muys, 52, was a trial attorney with the Land & Natural Resource Division of the Justice Department. He received his LL.M. in taxation and his J.D. from George Washington University Law School. Jeffrey Karp focuses on regulatory compliance for state and federal environmental laws as well as property transactions. He counsels clients in enforcement actions, contribution claims, licensing agreements, and other environmental matters. Before entering private practice, Karp, 54, was a senior attorney at the Justice Department, where he dealt with environmental enforcement cases.
