BOSTON The Massachusetts Attorney General tapped Goodwin Procter partner Paul Ware for a special assistant attorney general post overseeing the criminal investigation of last July’s Central Artery Tunnel collapse that killed Milena Del Valle. Ware is chairman of Goodwin’s litigation department and a member of the firm’s executive and management committees. Attorney General Martha Coakley called Ware the best person to lead a team of Assistant Attorneys General, investigators, and support staff. “This investigation is complicated, and it is crucial for the sake of the residents of Massachusetts, that we complete it well and quickly,” Coakley said. Coakley’s predecessor, former Attorney General Tom Reilly, launched a criminal investigation of the tunnel collapse immediately following the incident. Coakley’s term began in January. “Once we have concluded our criminal investigation, we will immediately pursue cost and damages recovery efforts,” Coakley said. In November, Reilly filed a civil suit in Suffolk Superior Court for negligence and breach of contract against 15 companies involved in the management, design, construction and oversight of the tunnel. The suit also alleged that Bechtel/Parsons-Brinkerhoff, the joint venture that managed the Big Dig project, was grossly negligent.
