Office supply stores worldwide will be busy this week thanks to a flurry of firm expansions announced Monday. Heller Ehrman is opening a three-lawyer London office; Duane Morris is putting six lawyers in a Singapore office; and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati is relocating its Reston, Va., office to Washington, D.C. The London office is Heller’s first Europe post, and it’s been eying the market since at least 2005. That year, Heller Chairman Matthew Larrabee told The Recorder that you can’t go to London “with two lawyers and a dog.” The first London staffers will be three lawyers already practicing with the firm: San Francisco real estate and finance partner Brian Smith; Washington, D.C., partner and European practice group co-chair Edward Henneberry; and San Diego corporate lawyer Stephen Ferruolo. The firm says it expects to have 15 to 25 lawyers there by year’s end. Duane Morris’ Singapore office will be led by Eduardo Ramos-Gomez, a corporate partner and former Mexican ambassador to Singapore. Joining Ramos-Gomez are five partners already practicing in Singapore. In addition, the firm announced that it will open two offices in Vietnam one in Hanoi and the other in Ho Chi Minh City in the spring of 2007. Wilson Sonsini cited the need to be nearer to the government in moving its 35-lawyer Reston office to the capital. “The firm has been an active player in the area for many years, but as the business grows, it is clear that we need an office in Washington, with ready access to the major regulatory agencies and other D.C.-based institutions,” Wilson Sonsini CEO John Roos said in a press release.
