Houston-based Fulbright & Jaworski opened an office in Denver this month to serve energy company clients operating in the Rocky Mountains. “Denver in the last few years has become an energy capital, producing in its own right, and much of the oil and gas to be produced in the future in the U.S. will be produced in the Rockies,” says Houston partner Poe Leggette, head of the firm’s Western Lands and Energy Practice. The Denver office, the 16th for the 1,009-lawyer firm, opened its doors on Nov. 13. Partner Jeff Dykes will head the new Denver office, with assistance from senior associate Bret Sumner. Leggette says he will spend some of his time working out of the Denver office. Also, in January 2007, Ken Wonstolen, senior vice president and general counsel for the Colorado Oil & Gas Association, will join the firm as a senior counsel in the Denver office. Wonstolen could not immediately be reached for comment. The firm’s clients in Colorado include Denver-based Bill Barrett Corp., but the firm represents several independent and major energy companies with operations in the region, such as EOG Resources Inc. of Houston. Dykes says Fulbright will add lawyers in Denver, but has set no timetable for that expansion. The Denver office is the second new outpost for Fulbright in recent weeks. Earlier this month, the firm announced the opening of an office in Beijing.
