There’s nothing better than an upgrade. After just two years at US Airways Group, Inc., Janet Dhillon was moved up to the C-level, becoming general counsel in September. She took over from Jim Walsh, 58, who is retiring. Dhillon, 44, first teamed up with the Tempe, Arizona based airline in August 2004 as a managing director in the legal department. Just a year later, she was promoted to vice president, deputy GC. Before going in-house, Dhillon was counsel with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. Dhillon, who declined to be interviewed, joined US Airways during a time of turbulence. After two bankruptcy reorganizations in two years, the company merged with America West and emerged from Chapter 11 protection in September 2005. The merger transformed the company into one of the largest U.S. airlines, with 357 planes serving 230 cities. Since the merger, the airline appears to have been enjoying some success. Its second-quarter profit of $305 million was second only to Southwest Airlines, according to The New York Times.
