BLANKINGSHIP & KEITHPetula Metzler, 39, has joined the Fairfax, Va.-based firm Blankingship & Keith as an associate in the land-use and education law practices. Most recently, Metzler served a two-year clerkship with Judge Lon Farris of the Prince William County, Va., circuit court. During her second year of law school, Metzler interned with Judge John Scott Jr. at the Fredericksburg, Va., circuit court. She earned her J.D. from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.

FARBER LEGAL Three attorneys have joined Farber Legal, a Rockville, Md.-based firm specializing in employment and labor law, as associates. Jason Keene graduated from New York University School of Law. Most recently, Keene, 34, served as counsel to D.C. Council member Vincent Gray. Smruti Radkar, 27, comes to the firm after graduating from George Washington University Law School. David Silvers was previously a partner at Ward & Klein in Gaithersburg, Md. Silvers, 43, graduated from George Washington University Law School.

FLETCHER, HEALD & HILDRETH Kevin Goldberg has been hired by Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth as special counsel. Goldberg, 35, comes from Cohn & Marks, where he was a partner. He will continue specializing in First Amendment cases involving newspapers, Internet publishing, and broadcasting. Goldberg graduated from George Washington University Law School.
KING & SPALDING Jim Vines has joined King & Spalding as a partner in the firm’s tort and environmental litigation practice. Vines, 42, arrives after serving for more than four years as the U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee in Nashville, a position for which he was appointed by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. From 1993 to 2000, Vines served as executive director and division general counsel at Bridgestone Inc. Vines was also a law clerk to the late Chief Justice William Rehnquist. His practice will involve product liability, mass-tort, pharmaceutical, and environmental litigation. He earned his J.D. from the Washington and Lee University School of Law.
PROSKAUER ROSE Three attorneys have joined Proskauer Rose’s securities practice as associates. Jacqueline Perrell, 35, received her J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law. She was an associate in the securities litigation and regulatory practice at Chadbourne & Parke. Benjamin Ogletree also comes from Chadbourne, where he was an associate in the securities litigation and regulatory practice. Ogletree, 34, received his J.D. from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law. Jonathan Hanks, 30, comes to the firm after receiving his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.
STARK, MEYERS & EISLER Four attorneys have announced the formation of Stark, Meyers & Eisler. The multipractice firm will have offices in Rockville, Md.; Washington, D.C.; and Vienna, Va. Seth Stark, a name partner, focuses on commercial and residential real estate transactions, leases, and formation of business entities. Formerly a solo practitioner with more than 20 years of experience, he specializes on helping clients acquire, finance, construct, and close deals. Stark, 48, received his J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University. Eric Meyers, 55, also a name partner, focuses on preparing estate plans and advising clients on real estate transactions. He was previously a solo practitioner. Meyers received his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law. The firm’s third name partner, Alan Eisler, concentrates on bankruptcy law and commercial litigation. He was previously a partner at Paley Rothman, based in Bethesda, Md. Eisler, 40, represents debtors, creditors, and trustees in bankruptcy cases and has litigated commercial cases in state and federal courts. He earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Erica Leatham joins as of counsel and was previously an associate with Holland & Knight in its Bethesda, Md. office. She focuses on zoning and land-use issues, real estate taxation appeals, and commercial transactions. Leatham, 31, is a graduate of George Washington University Law School.
SUTHERLAND ASBILL & BRENNAN Marguerite Bateman, 44, the former managing director of the Independent Directors Council, will join Sutherland Asbill & Brennan’s financial services practice as a partner. Bateman will practice in the firm’s D.C. office, focusing on mutual funds and investment-management organizations. She had served as managing director of the IDC, which offers programs to educate mutual-fund directors about the requirements of federal securities laws and areas of developing regulatory interest, since the council’s inception in 2004. Bateman earned her J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law. — Nathan Carlile
