AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION SECTION OF PUBLIC CONTRACT LAW Michael Hordell, a partner at Pepper Hamilton, will become the chairman of the American Bar Association Section of Public Contract Law at the ABA’s annual meeting in Hawaii next month. The section advocates for excellence in acquisition policy and procurement law. Hordell chairs the ABA’s Books and Monographs Committee and is a member of the Bid Protest and Health Care Contracting committees. Hordell also has served as procurement counsel at the General Accounting Office and as an associate editor of the Public Contract Law Journal.
D.C. BAR LAW FIRM PRO BONO AWARDS Hogan & Hartson received the 2005 Law Firm Pro Bono Award in the large-firm category on June 22 at the D.C. Bar’s annual business meeting and awards dinner. The firm was recognized for working 53,517 pro bono hours among its 437 members last year, focusing mainly on low-income clients or organizations that serve them. At the same meeting, Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi was awarded the Law Firm Pro Bono Award in the small-firm category. The firm has been recognized as a “go-to” member of the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Program’s Law Firm Clinic. The firm’s pro bono efforts have been particularly focused on child-custody, landlord-tenant, and business-fraud matters. — Ben Sullivan
