BAKER HOSTETLER Baker Hostetler has hired former U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach, 40, as a partner in the legislative and regulatory and litigation groups. He will maintain offices in both Washington and Cleveland and will focus on white-collar criminal and regulatory matters as well as congressional investigations and inquiries. Dettelbach has worked in all three branches of government and most recently served as an assistant U.S. attorney on the Organized Crime and Corruption Strike Force in Cleveland. He earned his J.D. at Harvard Law School.
NOVAK DRUCE DELUCA & QUIGG James Remenick, who was a partner at Powell Goldstein, accepted a position with Novak Druce DeLuca & Quigg as a partner in and head of the firm’s chemical, biotechnology and pharmaceutical practice group. He focuses on all aspects of intellectual property protection and enforcement, including litigation, prosecution, licensing, opinions, consulting, and counseling. Remenick, 50, received his J.D. at American University, Washington College of Law.
SIDLEY AUSTIN Sidley Austin has promoted nine members to partner in its D.C. office. Steven Cottreau, 35, has made partner in the litigation-civil, criminal and constitutional practice, where he mainly focuses on civil litigation and criminal defense. He had been an associate. Cottreau earned his J.D. at New York University School of Law. Coleen Klasmeier, previously counsel, is now a partner in the litigation-regulatory and economic practice. Before joining Sidley Austin, she was the special assistant to the chief counsel at the Food and Drug Administration. Klasmeier, 34, received her J.D. from Boston University School of Law. Colleen Lauerman is a partner in the litigation-civil, criminal and constitutional practice, where she concentrates on representing individuals and corporations in criminal and complex civil litigation. Previously a senior associate at the firm, Lauerman, 38, earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Jennifer Haworth McCandless, 39, now a partner in the international trade and dispute resolution practice, focuses on international dispute settlement, with an emphasis on matters concerning the World Trade Organization and domestic court litigation involving trade practice. Previously, she was an associate. McCandless received her J.D. at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Stephen Nickelsburg, who was an associate, has made partner in the litigation-civil, criminal and constitutional practice, where he focuses on complex civil and criminal matters. Nickelsburg, 38, received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. Christopher Shenk, 35, is a partner in the litigation-regulatory and economic practice, where he mainly represents telecommunications firms in matters involving litigation, economic regulation, and legislation. Previously an associate, he taught microeconomics at the University of Virginia before joining Sidley. Shenk earned his J.D. at the University of North Carolina School of Law. Leslie Shubert, 35, formerly an associate, is now a partner in the litigation-civil, criminal and constitutional practice. She represents individuals and corporations in both civil and criminal litigation. Shubert received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. David Steffes, a partner in the intellectual property practice, advises clients on technology-transfer and licensing matters, prepares and prosecutes patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and does investigations on patent validity, infringement, and product clearance. He had been an associate. Steffes, 34, received his J.D. at the University of Wisconsin Law School. Rebecca Wood, 34, is a partner in the litigation-civil, criminal and constitutional practice, where she represents clients in civil and appellate litigation. She focuses on product liability and mass tort litigation and on representing corporations, religious institutions, and states in appellate matters. Wood, who was an associate, earned her J.D. at New York University School of Law.
WOMBLE CARLYLE SANDRIDGE & RICE Brian Telfair, who was a partner at Adorno & Yoss, has joined Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice’s products liability practice group in its Tysons Corner, Va., office. He will focus mainly on defending automobile manufacturers and enhancing the firm’s products liability defense capability. Telfair, 44, has represented a variety of clients in liability defense cases and is a member of the Michigan and Virginia bars. He received his J.D. at the Marshall-Whythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary. — Marisa McQuilken
