ALSTON & BIRD Alston & Bird has hired two partners for its technology group. Trevor Nagel, 55, joins the firm from Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman’s D.C. office, where he was a partner and head of global technology services. He will serve as the chair of Alston & Bird’s global sourcing practice. Nagel, who focuses on global sourcing, is also a professor and author. He earned his S.J.D. from Harvard Law School and his LL.M. from the University of Chicago Law School. Lee Van Blerkom also joins from Pillsbury Winthrop, where he was a partner. He advises large corporations and financial institutions on sourcing and technology-related transactions. He also has experience in the development of strategic co-marketing arrangements, joint ventures, and strategic alliances. Van Blerkom, 36, received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
PATTON BOGGS Patton Boggs has hired two associates to expand its health care practice. Kathleen Strottman, 34, comes over from the office of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), where she served as legislative director. She advised the senator about health care policy and women’s and children’s issues. A co-founder of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institution, Strottman earned her J.D. from Whittier Law School. Piper Nieters was hired away from Powers Pyles Sutter & Verville, where she advised health care clients as an associate. She specializes in issues related to Medicare and Medicaid compliance and reimbursement. Nieters, 27, earned her J.D. from American University-Washington College of Law.
RUSSIN EXECUTIVE SEARCH Stacey Levy Russin has founded Russin Executive Search, an executive search firm specializing in attorney placement. Russin, 42, was formerly a principal at the McCormick Group Inc., where she placed partners, counsel, and associates in law firms and corporations. Russin received her bachelor’s in English from the University of Michigan.
SHEPPARD, MULLIN, RICHTER & HAMPTON David Geneson, 58, who was a partner at Hunton & Williams, has accepted a position with Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton as a partner in its white collar and civil fraud defense practice group. Geneson focuses on white-collar criminal defense and civil enforcement litigation. He also has 15 years’ experience as a federal prosecutor. For 20 years he has taught trial practice throughout the country for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and at various law schools. Geneson earned his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law.
SIDLEY AUSTIN Sidley Austin has hired three partners for its intellectual property practice group. All three had been partners at Arnold & Porter. Stanton Lawrence III, 61, focuses on patent litigation, mainly related to chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology. He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in bench and jury trials. Lawrence received his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School. Paul Zegger specializes in chemical engineering, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology. Zegger, 47, earned his J.D. from Albany Law School of Union University. Todd Wagner, 40, focuses on litigation and appeals of intellectual property issues. He represents plaintiffs and defendants in cases involving a variety of technologies and concentrates on pharmaceutical cases as well as chemical and biotechnology disputes. Wagner also received his J.D. from Albany Law School of Union University.
SPRIGGS & HOLLINGSWORTH Spriggs & Hollingsworth has hired two associates. Eugene Chay, who was most recently an attorney adviser in the Office of the Chief Counsel in the Bureau of the Public Debt of the Treasury Department, joins Spriggs & Hollingsworth’s toxic torts and products liability and insurance groups. He focuses on complex litigation, specifically on insurance coverage matters and the defense of business torts. Chay, 34, served as president of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of the greater D.C. area from 2004 to 2005. He earned his J.D. from American University-Washington College of Law. Jessica Krieg, 26, comes aboard from Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads in Philadelphia, where she was a commercial litigation associate. She will work in three of Spriggs & Hollingsworth’s practice groups: pharmaceutical products, toxic torts and products liability, and insurance. Krieg, who defends complex toxic tort matters and prosecutes coverage actions for corporate policyholders, earned her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. — Marisa McQuilken
