Ever since ex-Senate staffer Jessica Cutler was sued by her former lover for detailing his alleged sexual habits, such as “spanking,” on her infamous Washingtonienne blog, Cutler has had trouble keeping an attorney. Her first firm, Berliner, Corcoran & Rowe, has sued Cutler for failing to pay it. Her second lawyer, William Bode of Bode & Grenier, withdrew after Jonathan Rosen, counsel for plaintiff Robert Steinbuch, accused Bode of being one of the sexual partners described in Cutler’s blog. And in May, John Umana asked to withdraw as counsel because of Cutler’s failure to pay attorney fees. Now Judge Paul Friedman has ordered Cutler to “personally respond in writing” by July 7 about whether she plans to make a fourth go-round with an attorney or proceed with the case on her own. In the meantime, though, Friedman has put a hold on any further discovery until he rules on Cutler’s motion to dismiss Steinbuch’s case.
