Health care specialist Epstein Becker & Green waded into new territory last week by opening D.C. affiliate EBG Advisors Inc. The new consulting and lobbying entity will focus on securing marketing approvals from the Food and Drug Administration and assisting companies with Medicare reimbursement issues. It will also provide due diligence and advisory services for health care and life sciences investors. The shop’s lineup consists of three managing partners: Teresa Brooks, an Epstein partner, and Paul Campbell and Ted Mannen, who both joined the firm in February from Baker & Daniels. “It has generally grown out of our continuing effort to continue to expand our work and our services in the life sciences arena,” says Douglas Hastings, chair of the firm’s health care and life sciences practice, of EBG Advisors. Housed in the same offices as the law firm, EBG Advisors is expected “to be involved in some discreet legal analysis, but mostly [focus] on forecasting and planning ahead” for life sciences companies, says Mannen. Although Mannen says EBG Advisors already has clients, he declined to name any of them. Generally, he says, they are drug companies, a trade association, and some smaller technology startups.
