UPDATES Claire E. Reade, a partner at Arnold & Porter, was appointed to serve as chief counsel for China trade enforcement for the office of the U.S. Trade Representative. She will be responsible for enforcing China’s compliance with various international trade agreements and will co-chair the office’s China Enforcement Task Force. Reade, who will assume her new position later this summer, has focused on representing and advising clients in complex international trade litigations during her tenure at Arnold & Porter. Four partners from Alschuler, Grossman, Stein and Kahan will join Steptoe & Johnson on July 1 and open a new office in Century City, Calif. Mark A. Neubauer, who currently serves as co-chair of Alschuler’s business litigation department, focuses on securities, entertainment, employment, business, real estate and commercial law. Rebecca Edelson’s practice includes intellectual property, patent and trademark litigation. Katessa Charles Davis concentrates on commercial and employment disputes and Meredith M. Moss focuses on employment and business litigation. Daryl A. Libow has been named managing partner of Sullivan & Cromwell’s Washington office, following Robert H. Craft Jr., who has held the position since 1988. Libow has been a partner at the firm since 1994, with his practice focusing on representing high-profile corporate and individual clients in connection with government enforcement actions and congressional investigations. His clients have included Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, British Airways and former President Bill Clinton. New partners Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton (New York): Alan Beller rejoins the securities and corporate governance practice as partner in the firm’s New York office. He most recently served as director of the corporation finance division at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and as senior counselor to the commission. Katten Muchin Rosenman: Anissa D. Seymour joins the securities litigation practice as partner in the firm’s Los Angeles office. She was previously a senior litigation associate in the Los Angeles office of Latham & Watkins. Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland & Perretti (Morristown, N.J.): Eleni Iacovides comes on board as partner in the firm’s newly-opened London office. She was previously general counsel at Castlewood (E.U.) Ltd., a global insurance company. Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal: Blaine C. Kimrey joins the national litigation and business regulation group as partner in the firm’s Chicago office. He was previously an associate at Chicago’s Winston & Strawn. New counsel Beveridge & Diamond (Washington): Peter J. Schaumberg joins the land use group as of counsel to the firm’s Washington office. He most recently served as deputy associate solicitor for the Division of Mineral Resources in the U.S. Department of Interior. Brown Rudnick Berlack Israels (Boston): Paul G. Afonso joins the Boston government law and strategies group as of counsel to the firm’s Boston and Washington offices. He previously served as chairman of the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Energy. New arrivals Greenberg Traurig: Two attorneys join the real estate practice-in Los Angeles, Scott Bertzyk and in New York, Allison B. Rosenberg. Bertzyk was previously a partner at Jones Day. Rosenberg was previously an associate at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson of New York. Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo (Boston): Six attorneys join the firm’s newly opened San Diego office-as partners, Eddie Wang Rodriguez, Craig Hunsaker, Lance Kurata, James Cleary and Carl Kukkonen; and as of counsel, Jeremy Hayden. They were all previously at Fish & Richardson. In addition, Jonathan N. Rosen joins the litigation section as partner in the firm’s Washington office. He most recently served as a senior assistant U.S. attorney in the fraud and public corruption section of the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington. Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart: Five attorneys come on board as partners-in Miami, Angel Castillo Jr. (employment); in Chicago, Timothy J. Stanton (employee benefits); in Dallas, Michael R. Buchanan (employment); and in Birmingham, Ala., Beverly P. Baker and James A. Patton Jr. (employment). Castillo was previously of counsel to Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. Baker and Patton were both previously partners at Miller, Hamilton, Snider & Odom of Mobile, Ala. Laterals Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott (Pittsburgh): Charles P. McCullough joins the public finance department as partner in the firm’s Pittsburgh office. A former Allegheny County, Pa., solicitor, McCullough was previously a partner at Tucker Arensberg of Pittsburgh. Fulbright & Jaworski (Houston): Darrell Windham joins the business/corporate section as partner in the firm’s Austin, Texas, office. He previously headed the Austin corporate practice of Dallas’ Winstead Sechrest & Minick. Goodwin Procter (Boston): Five attorneys join the private equity practice as partners-in Washington, J. Hovey Kemp, Christopher J. Hagan and James A. Hutchinson and in New York, Thomas C. Meriam and Bruce J. Rader. Kemp, Hagan and Hutchinson were previously partners at Washington’s Hogan & Hartson.
