JENNER & BLOCK Georgetown University Law Center professor Carrie Menkel-Meadow has received a Fulbright Scholar Award for work she will do in Chile during the 2007 spring semester. An international professor on alternative dispute resolution, civil procedure, and legal ethics, Menkel-Meadow holds the A.B. Chettle Jr. Chair in Dispute Resolution and Civil Procedure at Georgetown Law. While in Chile, she will lecture and do research on the use of dispute resolution practices. This comes at a time when Chile is making considerable strides in legal reform, including the legalization of divorce two years ago. Menkel-Meadow will be affiliated with Alberto Hurtado University in Santiago and the Autonomous University of the South in Temuco.
EDWARD BENNETT WILLIAMS AMERICAN INN OF COURT Francis Carter was recently appointed secretary of the Edward Bennett Williams American Inn of Court. He succeeded Roger Spaeder, a partner at Zuckerman Spaeder, who held the position for seven years. The American Inn of Court is an invitation-only professional organization, comprising judges, lawyers, law professors and law students, with the aim of improving the skills, professionalism, and ethics of the bench and bar. The group has the distinction of being one of only a few Inns of Court specializing in white collar criminal prosecution and defense. Carter is a partner in the complex civil litigation, white collar criminal litigation, and employment and labor litigation practices at Zuckerman Spaeder.
HEALTHCARE INFORMATION AND MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS SOCIETY Steven Fox was appointed to the Advisory Board of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, effective July 1. The appointment is for a two-year term. Founded in 1961, the HIMSS represents approximately 17,000 individual and 275 corporate members. The HIMSS is designed to promote information and management systems’ contributions to patient care. Fox is a partner with Pepper Hamilton in the firm’s health care practice. — Nathan Carlile
