Updates The chairman of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey’s hospitality and leisure practice group and nine other attorneys have moved to Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal. Richard Ross, who will lead Sonnenschein’s hospitality and real estate group, will work from the firm’s newly opened Phoenix office, where he will be joined by partners Meghan Cocci and Mark Daliere, in addition to an of counsel attorney and three associates. Partner Michael Kosmas, one of counsel attorney and one associate will join the firm’s Washington office. Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati has hired as a partner Renata Hesse, former chief of the networks and technology enforcement section of the U.S. Department of Justice’s antitrust division. Hesse’s work at the Department of Justice involved investigations in technology and financial markets, including electronic trading. Before joining the Justice Department, she practiced at Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison in San Francisco. Hesse will work from Wilson Sonsini’s Reston, Va., office. New counsel Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough (Columbia, S.C.): Franklin Scott Templeton joins the health care and business law practices as of counsel to the firm’s Winston-Salem, N.C., office. He has served as North Carolina deputy secretary of state and as legal counsel to the North Carolina Department of Labor. New partners Arent Fox (Washington): John Bricker joins the real estate group as partner in the firm’s New York office. Previously, he was special counsel to Windels Marx Lane & Mittendorf of New York. Carter Ledyard & Milburn (New York): Keith D. Nowak joins the intellectual property department as partner. He was previously a partner at Dickstein Shapiro Morin & Oshinsky of Washington. Heller Ehrman: Robert B. Buehler joins the securities litigation practice group as partner in the firm’s New York office. He was previously at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, where he headed the organized crime and terrorism unit. Tew Cardenas (Miami): Carlos J. Abarca comes on board as partner in the firm’s Miami office. A former vice president of corporate finance at Chase Manhattan Bank, he was previously an associate at Miami’s Shutts & Bowen. Firm promotions Cozen O’Connor (Philadelphia): Eleven attorneys have been named as partners-in New York, Jason L. Beckerman (complex litigation) and Peter G. Geis (real estate); in Philadelphia, Stephen R. Bishop (insurance), Adam C. Bonin (subrogation and recovery), Jonathan D. Hurwitz (subrogation and recovery) and Mia Meloni (business litigation); in Denver, Christopher S. Clemenson (insurance); in Charlotte, N.C., Michael A. Durr (insurance); in Chicago, Christopher H. Murphy (products liability) and Beth A. Stroup (enterprise risk); and in Toronto, Christopher Reain (civil, commercial and insurance). Laterals Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis (Los Angeles): Lynn Borkenhagen joins the real estate and construction practice groups as partner in the firm’s San Diego office. She was formerly a partner with Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps of San Diego. Baker Hostetler: Heather J. McDonald joins the litigation group as partner in the firm’s New York office as a partner in the litigation group. She was previously a partner at Gibney, Anthony & Flaherty of New York. DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary: Two attorneys come on board as partners-in Washington, Joseph A. Turzi (labor and employment), and in Chicago, Feng Xue (corporate and securities). Turzi was previously a partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer Feld. Xue previously headed the China and Asia practice at Bell, Boyd & Lloyd of Chicago. Greenberg Traurig: Four attorneys join the firm as partners-in Los Angeles, Eric Rowen (Western region real estate litigation); in Philadelphia, Robert M. Goldich (labor and employment) and Stuart D. Poppel (real estate); and in East Palo Alto, Calif., Kathleen Strickland (Western region mass tort). Rowen was previously a partner in the real estate practice at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker. Goldich was previously a partner at Wolf, Block, Schorr and Solis-Cohen of Philadelphia. Poppel was previously a partner at Blank Rome of Philadelphia.
