After 19 years practicing together, Lynne Bernabei and Debra Katz have decided to close Bernabei & Katz and go their separate ways. Although they are still in the process of dissolving their partnership, both have already founded new firms. “We had a very good run of it, but it was time for us to practice separately,” Katz says, calling the split “amicable and mutual.” Joining Katz at Katz, Marshall & Banks are former Bernabei & Katz partners Lisa Banks and Ari Wilkenfeld and former of counsel David Marshall. Katz says the new shop will do the same kind of work as the old firm — employment discrimination, sexual harassment, and whistle-blower protection, with a focus on Sarbanes-Oxley cases. The new firm, she says, will also do more consumer class action cases, an effort headed up by Marshall. Meanwhile, longtime Bernabei & Katz associate Alan Kabat and partner David Wachtel have joined Bernabei at the Bernabei Law Firm. Bernabei says her firm will also concentrate on employment discrimination, sexual harassment, and whistle-blower protection, including Sarbanes-Oxley cases, as well as general civil litigation.
